“I’m an universe” : contracultura e boêmia no Bom Fim (1967-1989)

Abstract

A contracultura teve uma significativa importância nas modificações comportamentais da sociedade ocidental no decorrer da segunda metade do século XX. O bairro Bom Fim – localizado na região central de Porto Alegre – foi, durante as décadas de 1960 a 1980, um espaço acolhedor às práticas boêmias e à produção artística local. Logo, o presente trabalho busca analisar a efervescência cultural ocorrida no bairro durante o período de 1967 a 1989 sob a ótica do caráter contracultural. Sob o prisma das rupturas e continuidades históricas, a análise da contracultura ocorre tanto acerca do fenômeno datado e suas manifestações contraculturais como sobre os preceitos definidores de um conceito de contracultura. Dessa maneira, a boêmia e a cena cultural produzida no bairro Bom Fim no período supracitado é estudada com objetivo de perceber a existência de um ímpeto contracultural, desde o momento no qual se encontrava localizada na Esquina Maldita até sua expansão pela Avenida Oswaldo Aranha, no decorrer do tempo. Através das produções musicais – interpretando-as como um modo de representação da cena artística – e da pesquisa histórica, este trabalho visa elucidar acerca da vida noturna de Porto Alegre e sua efervescência cultural durante a Ditadura Militar, bem como durante o processo de abertura política subsequente.

The counterculture had a significative importance in the behavioural modifications of western society on the second half of the twentieth century. The Bom Fim district - located in the central region of Porto Alegre - was, from 1960 to 1980, an inviting space to the bohemian life and to the local artistic production. Therefore, the present work seeks to analyze the cultural effervescence that took place in Bom Fim during the period from 1967 to 1989 from the countercultural perspective. Under the prism of historical ruptures and continuities, the analysis of the counterculture occurs both about the dated phenomenon and its countercultural manifestations as about the defining precepts of a concept of counterculture. In this way, the bohemia and the cultural scene produced in the Bom Fim district during the mentioned period are studied in order to perceive the existence of a countercultural impetus, from the moment it was located in Esquina Maldita until its expansion into Avenida Oswaldo Aranha, in the course of time. Through musical productions - interpreted as a way of presenting the artistic scene - and historical research, this work aims to elucidate the nightlife of Porto Alegre and its cultural effervescence during the Military Dictatorship, as well as during the process of subsequent political opening.
