A literatura comparada nesse admirável mundo novo

Abstract

No quadro da barbárie entranhada na história do presente, apresento reflexões em torno de relações entre globalização, violência, miséria humana e degradação ambiental, fazendo um contraponto dessa realidade com os avanços do conhecimento na área dos estudos literários para indagar sobre a sua (in)eficácia em termos de intervenção na prospecção de um mundo distópico. Nessa linha de argumentação, retomo o debate em torno das novas tecnologias de informação e do impacto de suas redes de poder na relação ambivalente com a democratização do conhecimento. Argumento que a inserção da literatura comparada na rede virtual deve contemplar os princípios da alteridade e da razão imaginativa e dialógica inerentes à prática comparatista e que conferem aos seus saberes singularidade e importância ímpar na luta pela sobrevivência e respeito à diversidade das línguas e das culturas humanas, o que, por suas implicações, constitui uma ação de preservação da vida.

Before the picture of barbarism entrenched in contemporary history, I here present a reflection upon the relations between globalization, violence, human destitution and environmental disasters, making a counterpoint between such a reality and the advances in the field of literary studies so as to raise the question of its (in)efficacy regarding an intervention in the prospect of a dystopian world. Following this line of argument, I draw attention to the debate about the new information technologies and the impact of their webs of power on the ambivalent relation with the democratization of knowledge. I argue that the inclusion of comparative literature in the world wide web must follow the principles of alterity and of imaginative and dialogic reason inherent to the comparatist practices, which confer their bodies of knowledge a singular and unique importance in the struggle for survival and respect for the diversity of languages and human cultures, whose very implications make it an action engaged with the preservation of life.
