The indexes of have the purpose of observing future trends of economic activity by measuring the agents’ expectations for the following periods. Since the 1990s, several studies have emerged to measure the ability of these indexes to anticipate the future behavior of the economy and, in general, the results suggest for a good performance of confidence in fulfilling this role. The present study, based on error correction vector model, sought to evaluate the predictive power of the Industrial Entrepreneur Confidence Index of the National Confederation of Industries (ICEI/CNI) on industrial activity and to analyze the character of the information contained in this index. The results suggest to significant long-term relation between confidence and industrial production and investment and, when aggregated with other macroeconomic variables, the ICEI/CNI presents significant long-term and short-term relation with the volume produced by the industry. Also, predictive power over industrial production is gained by including the index in a VEC model that contains other macroeconomic variables. It is suggested, then, that confidence plays a good role as an antecedent indicator, but it not enough to anticipate industrial activity in the short-term if taken individually. ...
