Foi utilizado o software WHO Anthro Plus, 2009 versão 1.0.3. | pt_BR |
dc.description.abstract | Introduction: Cancer is a group of diseases characterized by uncontrollable growth and spread of abnormal cells. Advances in antineoplastic treatments and care for children with cancer have resulted in a significant increase in cancer cure rates, also accompanied by an increase in the likelihood of developing late effects, such as alterations in nutritional status. Objective: To verify the nutritional status of adolescents with leukemia and lymphomas at the beginning and end of treatment until follow-up and associate the current nutritional status with the treatment received. Methods: A quantitative study of a longitudinal design, evaluating adolescents aged 10 to 19 years with more than 12 months of follow-up for leukemias and lymphoma, at the outpatient clinic of the Pediatric Oncology Service of the Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre. Measurements of weight, height, arm circumference, triceps skin fold, arm muscle circumference and abdominal circumference were collected. Anthropometric classification and nutritional diagnosis were performed according to WHO 2007. WHO Anthro Plus software, version 1.0.3 was used. This study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of HCPA, CAEE nº 51254215.0.0000.5327. Results: The sample consisted of 25 adolescents. In the current anthropometric evaluation, 40% of the patients were classified as overweight. The results point to an increase in the Z-score of body mass index by age during treatment (comparison between the means of the beginning and end), and at the follow-up, with significant differences between the periods (p = 0.001). There was a decrease in mean Z-score height-for-age with significant differences between termination of treatment and follow-up (p = 0.035). 20% of excess fat was found in the follow-up period in tricipital skin fold. All patients underwent chemotherapy, but no significant association was found between the medications used and the nutritional status. Conclusion: Anthropometric indicators demonstrate a significant frequency of overweight in the follow-up period and a possible growth deficit. There was no significant association between nutritional status at the start of treatment and at follow-up. This can be explained by the reduced sample, as well as the great variability in the characteristics of these patients, which can be considered a limitation of the study. | en |
