Memória e negritude: o grupo AFRO-SUL/ODOMODE como referência da cultura imaterial de Porto Alegre, RS

Abstract

Este trabalho tem como objetivo interpretar o significado do Afro-Sul/Odomode para a preservação da memória e do patrimônio da cultura negra da capital gaúcha, a partir da análise da contribuição do Grupo para a preservação da cultura negra em Porto Alegre e para reconhecimento da contribuição das memórias e raízes africanas para construção do patrimônio cultural de Porto Alegre, para tornar mais visível no panorama da cidade a relevância do instituto enquanto espaço de preservação da cultura negra na constituição da cidade. A investigação, de cunho qualitativo, se constitui num estudo de caso, que se utilizou da metodologia da história oral para recuperar as narrativas dos sujeitos, reunidas em encontros de memória utilizando a técnica do grupo focal. Analisa os fatores de branqueamento da comunidade negra, e os mecanismos de resistência expresso em movimentos sociais, clubes e outras instituições. Recupera o processo de criação do Instituto Sociocultural Afro- Sul/Odomode, no ano de 1974, a partir de um grupo musical de raiz africana voltado à difusão da cultura negra e um processo de autoafirmação calcada na origem afro dos componentes do grupo. Destaca como a formação do grupo, através da união da música com a dança, busca dar visibilidade da cultura e o empoderamento, tanto de seus membros, quanto de seus espectadores, uma vez que tem em sua fundação o objetivo de promover e dar projeção à cultura negra no Estado. Discute os processos de legitimação dos territórios e espaços que promovem a cultura negra e se preocupa em resgatar a memória de seus idealizadores, espaços esses que celebram as raízes de negros e negras que contribuíram para construir a identidade cultural da cidade. Conclui ao destacar que, as manifestações culturais, as atividades e projetos realizados no espaço, o legitimam enquanto território, identificando-o como lugar detentor de memória, celebração e difusão da cultura negra que tanto contribuiu para a construção cultural desta cidade.

The objective of this paper is to interpret the meaning of Afro-Sul/Odomode regarding the preservation of black culture’s memory and heritage in the gaucha capital, based on the analyses of the Group’s contribution to the preservation of the black culture in Porto Alegre and for the acknowledgement of the contribution of African memories and roots to the construction of Porto Alegre’s cultural heritage, as to make more visible the relevance of the institute in the city’s panorama as a space of preservation of the black culture in the constitution of the city. The research, of qualitative nature, constitutes a case study which used oral history methodology to recover the subjects narratives gathered in memory meetings applying the focus group technique. It analyses the black community’s whitening factors, and the mechanisms of resistance expressed in social movements, clubs and other institutions. It recovers the process of creation of the Instituto Sociocultural Afro-Sul/Odomode, in the year of 1974, from a musical group of African roots focused on promoting the black culture and a process of self-affirmation resting on the Afro origin of the group’s members. Stands out how the formation of the group, through the communion of music and dance, seeks the visibility of the culture as well as the empowerment of its members and spectators, once that its founding aim is to promote and project the black culture in the State. Discusses the processes of legitimization of the territories and spaces that promote the black culture and is concerned on rescuing the memory of its creators, spaces which celebrate the roots of black men and women who contributed to the construction of the city’s cultural identity. Concludes by pointing out that the cultural manifestations, the activities and projects realized in that space, legitimize it as a territory, identifying it as a place which bears memory, celebration and diffuses the black culture which has contributed so much to the cultural constitution of this city.
