Abstract
This article presents a structural model for the classification of postcolonial cultures, according to the relative importance of three cultural factors: indigenous peoples, colonisers and slaves or prisoners. The model is tested against a number of theoretical texts, so as to suggest ways in which Anglophone post-colonial theory can fruitfully engage with literary studies in the south of Brazil.
