Introdução: Estudos demonstram que há deficiência em ácidos graxos em populações com alto risco de desenvolver o TB. Introdução: Estudos demonstram que há deficiência em ácidos graxos em populações com alto risco de desenvolver o TB. O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a eficácia do tratamento com ômega-3 (ω-3) em um modelo animal de mania induzido por anfetamina. Metodologia: Para o modelo de prevenção de mania, ratos Wistar de 30 dias foram tratados com ω-3 (18% EPA e 12% DHA) 0,8g/kg ou tween por 14 dias. A partir do oitavo dia, os animais receberam um composto de anfetamina (AMPH) 2mg/kg ou salina. Atividade locomotora foi avaliada no 14º dia utilizando o campo aberto e parâmetros cognitivos foram avaliados utilizando o teste de reconhecimento de objetos feito entre o 14º e 17º dia. Resultados: No teste de reconhecimento de objetos, a AMPH prejudicou a memória declarativa a longo prazo dos animais quando comparados aos outros grupos (p<0,001) e esse prejuízo cognitivo foi prevenido pela administração de ω-3. A AMPH demonstrou uma tendência em aumentar a atividade locomotora nos animais durante o teste do campo aberto que não foi prevenida pelo ω-3. Conclusão: O ômega-3 se mostrou capaz de prevenir prejuízos na memória a longo prazo dos animais submetidos a administração de AMPH. Embora os mecanismos por trás destes resultados não estejam plenamente elucidados, o estudo acrescenta evidências para estratégias de prevenção primária. ...
