The production o f grapes in Brazil concentrates main ly on the Southem, Southeast and Northeast Regions ofthe cotmlry. The Serra Gaucha is the largest producer o f grapes and vine, but recently vine grape production has been increased in dryer Pampa's grassland areas at the westem border o f the state. The survey and study o f the mite fatma associated to vine grapes in Rio Grande do Sul has increased since the end of the last decade. This actions where started dueto successive mite infestations which have contributed to elevate mites to a plague status in certa in grape varieties. 11us study had as objective the enhancement o f the knowledge o f nute commtmity associated to Vitis vinifera L. present on grape leaves and on the spontaneous vegetation of vineyards of Cabemet Sauvignon and Merlot varieties of vineyards of the Vinícola Almadén Ltda. located in the Sant'Ana do Livramento Count.y, Rio Grande do Sul. Collections of vineyard leaves were accomplished in the period of January to May 20 10 and September 20 10 to March 20 11. In each samp le date 30 plants in three vineyards of each variety: Cabemet Sauvignon and Merlot have three leaves removed. From Jtme 2010 to June 20 11 samples of spontaneous vegetation where taken on 10 random chosen !ines in vineyards of each varietal on where were collected one branch o f each one o f the four more common plants present in the vineyards spontaneous vegetation: 8idens pilosa L.; Raphanus raphanistrum L.; Sida rhombifolia L. and Solanum americanum Mill. The total ammmt o f nutes removed from the leaves and branches o f spontaneous vegetation were 4,045 specimens, 3,204 belongig to identifiable adults, larvas and nymphs. Ofthese, 1,360 were collected in Cabemet Sauvignon, 1,676 in Merlotand 168 in thespontaneous vegetation. Among the predator mites, N californicus (McGregor) was the most representative in the vineyard leaves while in the spontaneous vegetation the most abtmdant nute was T aripo (Moraes & MacMurtry). Four phytotàgous species and two predator species were present at both vineyards and spontaneous vegetation suggesting a nugration ofthose species among these environments. The mite tàuna present on the leaves ofboth varieties didn't present s ignificant numerical difference, but was significantly smaller in relation to the nute numbers registered on the spontaneous vegetation. The presence o f the species Tarsonemus confusus (Ewing) and Phytonemus pallidus (Banks) were registered for lhe first time in the grape culture in Braz i!.en
