Este trabalho tem como finalidade abordar a relação entre a história do Brasil e o cinema nacional produzido no início da década de 1970 a partir da análise do filme Iracema, uma transa amazônica. Governado por uma ditadura civil-militar, liderada pelo Presidente Emílio Garrastazu Médici, o país experimentou um período de rápido crescimento econômico, sendo um de seus reflexos o investimento em grandes obras de infraestrutura, dentre as quais se destaca a construção da rodovia Transamazônica. O filme faz uma forte crítica às condições sociais enfrentadas pela população da região norte do país, além de denunciar a destruição de parte da floresta amazônica para a abertura da estrada e para a ocupação das terras, o que vai de encontro à propaganda oficial divulgada pelo governo federal, marcada pelo ufanismo e pelo discurso otimista quanto ao futuro do país, sintetizado na expressão “Brasil grande”. ...

This paper aims to address the relationship between the history of Brazil and the national cinema produced in the early 1970s from the analysis of the film Iracema, uma transa amazônica. This paper aims to address the relationship between the history of Brazil and the national cinema produced in the early 1970s from the analysis of the film Iracema, uma transa amazônica. Governed by a civilian-military dictatorship, led by President Emílio Garrastazu Médici, the country experienced a period of rapid economic growth, and one of its consequences was the investment in large infrastructure projects, among which stands out the construction of the Transamazônica Highway. The film makes a strong critique of social conditions faced by the population of the northern region of the country, in addition to denounce the partial destruction of the Amazon forest for the road opening and land occupation, which goes against the official propaganda disseminated by the federal government, marked by jingoism and the optimistic speech about the future of the country, summarized in the phrase "Brasil grande". ...
