Abstract in Portuguese

The mechanical preparation of the root canal does not obviate the collaboration of chemical auxiliaries to achieve with its objectives. Sodium hypochlorite is the most widely used due to its antimicrobial irrigant ability to dissolve organic tissue, cleaning and lubrication of the root canal. The chlorhexidine digluconate presents as an important alternative. These agent irrigators are generally used in the root canal in liquid form. In liquid presentation, its toxicity may bring harm to the periapical tissues. One of the modifications proposed to reduce the risk of leakage into the periapical tissues is to use a viscous chemical assist in gel form. This study sought to articles in the literature that evaluated the use of irrigation of sodium hypochlorite and chlorhexidine, in the forms of solution and gel. Based on the data obtained, we conclude that the currently used chemical auxiliaries bring us good results in endodontic therapy, but to enlarge the possibilities we could still count on irrigators agents in the form of gel, which are effective and less toxic. ...
