| pt_BR |
dc.description.abstract | The current study, based in literature review, aims to discuss the employment of cellular therapies for the treatment of equine tendon, joint and ligament injuries. Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is an autologous source that contains several growth factors which are important in proper wound healing, it has mitogenic, chemotactic and neovascular actions. The PRP utilization has been mostly proposed to be used in tendon and ligamentous injuries repair. Interleukin-1 is a cytokine that plays an important role in the regulation of inflammatory responses, and it can induce synovitis and joint pain. The interleukin-1 receptor antagonist protein (IRAP) binds to the interleucine-1 (IL-1) receptor and when this interaction is created, the proinflammatory action of IL-1 is blocked. Therefore, IRAP can decrease pain and inflammation, creating conditions to the joint to functionally recover more quickly and effectively. The stem cells have the competence to auto-renovate and differentiate themselves in one or several cellular types. They can be segregated from adipose tissue or from bone marrow collected from the animal and they can be used on soft tissue lesions of the equine locomotors apparatus, helping its recovery. The cellular therapies improve wound healing, promoting successful regeneration and reducing the scar formation, but there are still many gaps regarding their effectiveness that need to be fulfilled. | en |
