Introdução: A crescente prevalência de obesidade caracteriza um problema em escala global, estando associada a maior risco para doenças crônicas e mortalidade. Por essa razão, torna-se importante o estudo de fatores envolvidos no desenvolvimento e progressão da obesidade ainda não completamente conhecidos. Neste contexto, a microbiota intestinal surge como possível fator contribuinte à patologia da obesidade, visto que desempenha funções essenciais para a manutenção da homeostase corporal. Sabe-se que a microbiota é capaz de responder a mudanças na dieta, no entanto, o uso de probióticos no seu manejo ainda é insipiente. Objetivo: Revisar a literatura de forma sistemática para identificar os micro-organismos com potencial efeito anti-obesidade, bem como doses e formas de administração. Materiais e Métodos: Foram seguidas as diretrizes estabelecidas pelo PRISMA e foi utilizada a base de dados do Pubmed para a seleção de artigos. Foram incluídos estudos originais realizados em humanos, publicados até agosto de 2014, que avaliassem como fator em estudo o uso de probióticos e como desfechos peso corporal, índice de massa corporal, circunferência da cintura ou outros parâmetros de adiposidade. Resultados: De 430 artigos encontrados, um total de 15 obedeceram aos critérios de inclusão. Os micro-organismos utilizados foram predominantemente do gênero Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium e outros bacilos gram-positivos. As cepas utilizadas foram bastante heterogêneas entre estudos e a maioria empregou uma única cepa na intervenção. Os principais achados estão relacionados à capacidade de algumas cepas (em especial Lactobacillus gasseri SBT2055 e Lactobacillus rhamnosus CGMCC1.3724) em reduzir o peso corporal, circunferência da cintura e quadril, massa gorda, gordura visceral abdominal e gordura visceral subcutânea. Conclusão: Publicações recentes evidenciam a relação entre a manipulação da microbiota intestinal e obesidade. Porém, os estudos ainda são escassos e heterogêneos, sendo seus resultados controversos, dificultando a formulação de recomendações para a prática profissional. Assim, mais estudos são necessários para determinar relações causais, bem como a efetividade do uso de probióticos no tratamento da obesidade, especialmente em longo prazo. ...
