The purpose of the present study was to analyze on-line interactions among participants of a discussion forum that was part of an activity carried out in the InterAge virtual learning environment (Rezende et al., 2003), in the discipline “Epistemology in Physics Education” of a Master Degree Course in Physics Education. A tool based on the principles of Vygotsky’s and Bakhtin’s theories (Mortimer e Scott, 2002) has been used to analyze the enunciations of participants. This tool proved appropriate as allowed to elicit the dynamics of the discursive interactions between the mediator and the students. On the other hand, its application to on-line discourse has been more difficult than to traditional lectures, as the enunciations are, in general, long and complex in the forum. Two patterns of interaction were found, different from the ones identified by Mortimer e Scott at the science classroom: the initiation by the student with a question to the mediator and the initiation by the student in the form of a comment, with a feedback of the mediator and the other students. As these patterns were frequent, a tendency of reversing the verticalization of discursive activity can be remarked in the forum analyzed.en
