Analisa os motivos pelos quais algumas teses e dissertações produzidas no âmbito da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) não estão disponíveis no Lume, denominação atribuída ao Repositório Digital da UFRGS. Analisa os motivos pelos quais algumas teses e dissertações produzidas no âmbito da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) não estão disponíveis no Lume, denominação atribuída ao Repositório Digital da UFRGS. Por meio de pesquisa exploratória, levanta a contribuição de cada Programa de Pós-Graduação para o incremento da comunidade de teses e dissertações do Lume, entre os anos de 2001 e 2009. Identifica as teses e dissertações não depositadas e as motivações dos autores para não permitir sua disponibilização. Pesquisa a publicação dos resultados das teses e dissertações que não estão no Lume, em outros meios de comunicação científica, assim como pedidos ou concessões de patentes registradas no Instituto Nacional da Propriedade Intelectual (INPI). Os Programas de Pós-Graduação que mais contribuíram com o Lume, no período de 2001 a 2009, foram: Microeletrônica, Design, Ensino de Física, Relações Internacionais e Educação em Ciências: Química da Vida e Saúde, todos com 100% dos trabalhos depositados. Dentre as justificativas apresentadas pelos autores para não depositar a tese e/ou a dissertação no Lume, identifica as três principais: a intenção de publicação dos resultados, o propósito de patenteamento das descobertas e o caráter confidencial dos trabalhos. Constata que 25,56% dos autores que declararam a intenção de publicação efetivamente publicaram os resultados de seus trabalhos. Entre os autores com o propósito de patentear suas descobertas, apenas 22,73% registraram o pedido de patente no INPI. ...

This work analyzes the reasons why some theses and dissertations produced at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) are not available in Lume, denomination for the UFRGS Digital Repository. This work analyzes the reasons why some theses and dissertations produced at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) are not available in Lume, denomination for the UFRGS Digital Repository. Through exploratory research, it raises the contribution of each Post-Graduation Program to increase the Lume‟s community of dissertations and theses, between the years 2001 and 2009. It identifies the theses and dissertations that were not deposited and the motivations of the authors for not allow them available. It researches the publication of the results of dissertations and theses that are not in Lume, in other ways of scientific communication, as well as requests for or grants of patents registered with the Instituto National da Propriedade Intelectual (INPI). The Post-Graduation Programs that most contributed to Lume, in the period from 2001 to 2009, were: Microelectronics, Design, Education in Physics, International Relations and Education in Science: Chemistry of Life and Health, all with 100% of the works deposited. Among the justifications given by the authors for the unavailability of their thesis and/or dissertation in Lume, it identifies the three main reasons: the intention of publishing the results, the purpose of patenting of discoveries and the confidentiality of the works. It finds out that 25.56% of authors who have declared the intention of publishing effectively published the results of their works.
