Produção científica e formação de recursos humanos em bioquímica no Rio Grande do Sul

Abstract

A produção científica brasileira em Bioquímica está crescendo rapidamente, e o Rio Grande do Sul se destaca nesse contexto. Por esta razão, o objetivo deste estudo é caracterizar, no período de 1999 a 2010, os professores/pesquisadores de Bioquímica das IES públicas federais, 1 pública estadual e privadas do RS, analisando sua produção científica (número de artigos científicos publicados, número de dissertações e teses orientadas) e fomento estadual (FAPERGS) e federal (CNPq, CAPES e FINEP). Além disso, objetiva também analisar o perfil, a produção científica, a formação de recursos humanos e a rede de colaboração científica dos Doutores formados nos PPGs em Bioquímica da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, UFRGS e em Bioquímica Toxicológica da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, UFSM. Constatamos que a maioria dos professores/pesquisadores em Bioquímica de todas as Instituições, públicas ou privadas, é titulada, mas nem todos conseguem exercer atividades de pesquisa aliadas àquelas de ensino nas instituições que os acolhem e que os PPGs em Bioquímica da UFRGS e Bioquímica Toxicológica da UFSM criaram vínculos para investigação científica que propiciaram o intercâmbio de professores/pesquisadores de tal maneira que muitos orientadores que atuam em ambas IES, o que contribuiu para a formação de um excelente núcleo de pesquisa e investigação na UFSM, com reflexos extremamente positivos no PPG-UFRGS. Estes dois núcleos interagem até os dias de hoje, com ampla repercussão na Bioquímica gaúcha, nacional e internacional.

The Brazilian scientific production in Biochemistry is rapidly increasing and the State of Rio Grande do Sul occupies an important position in this context. For this reason, the purpose of this study is to determine, between 1999 a 2010 the professional profile of teachers/ researchers in Biochemistry from public (Brazilian and regional) and private Universities, as well as to quantify and evaluate their scientific production (the number of scientific papers published and the number of Master and PhD thesis supervised), and the financial support from regional (FAPERGS) and federal (CNPq, CAPES and FINEP) agencies. Additionally, the present work aims to analyze the profile, the scientific output, the human resources formation and the scientific collaboration network from PhD that have concluded their studies in the Post-Graduation Programs (PPGs) in Biochemistry from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, UFRGS, and in the Toxicological Biochemistry from Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, UFSM. Our data show that the majority of teachers/ researchers in Biochemistry from all institutions analyzed, public or private, obtained the PhD degree, but could not follow scientific research together with their educational activities. Besides, we observed that both PPGs in Biochemistry, UFRGS, and in Toxicological Biochemistry, UFSM, have established important interactions aiming to develop scientific investigation that resulted in the exchange of teachers/ researchers, PhD students and supervisors working at both institutions, which contributed for the consolidation of an excellent research center at UFSM, with extremely positive impacts on the PPG-UFRGS. Both scientific research centers remain interacting with significant repercussion in regional, national and international Biochemistry area.
