A cobertura de finais do Campeonato Gaúcho de Futebo pelo Correio do Povo no século XX

Abstract

Esta pesquisa analisa as mudanças e permanências na cobertura esportiva do Correio do Povo de finais de Campeonatos Gaúchos no século XX. O corpus foi composto por todas as matérias jornalísticas que cobriam os jogos finais das edições do campeonato de 1920, 1943, 1969 e 1995, totalizando 57 textos. Os objetivos específicos são: a) identificar as características da cobertura das finais do Campeonato Gaúcho em cada edição; b) mensurar o espaço que a editoria de esportes e a cobertura das finais ganha nas edições estudadas; c) apontar quais gêneros textuais jornalísticos são utilizados nas coberturas; d) analisar o desenvolvimento do Correio do Povo ao longo de sua história, com especial destaque para o que acontece na editoria de esportes. Como método de pesquisa, foram adotados os parâmetros da Análise de Conteúdo descritos por Bardin (2011), que permitem a combinação da análise quantitativa e qualitativa. No decorrer da pesquisa, foi constatado que, ao longo das décadas, a cobertura do Correio do Povo passou a incorporar mais gêneros jornalísticos, ao mesmo tempo em que desenvolveu sua linguagem. A pesquisa partiu da hipótese de que, com o passar dos anos, a cobertura se tornaria mais extensa, especializada e minuciosa, o que também se confirmou. Em 1920, a cobertura era marcada pela presença de termos em inglês, pelo foco das matérias em instituições e pela divisão das matérias entre a seção de telegramas e de esportes. Em 1943, os textos passaram a se concentrar na seção esportiva e, apesar da diminuição de termos em inglês, a linguagem seguiu empolada, assim como a organização das informações dentro das notícias e matérias era confusa. Em 1969, a linguagem se tornou mais direta, fotografias compuseram a cobertura, e os jogadores passaram a ser os protagonistas das matérias. Em 1995, a cobertura do Correio foi composta por 33 textos, o que representa mais da metade dos textos analisados, demonstrando como ela se tornou mais fragmentada, isto é, constituída por uma quantidade maior de textos que abordavam fatos mais específicos. A quantidade de gêneros jornalísticos também aumentou, e os treinadores das equipes e árbitros passaram a dividir o protagonismo das matérias com os jogadores.

This research analyzes the changes and continuities in Correio do Povo's sports coverage of the Campeonato Gaúcho finals in the 20th century. The corpus was made up of all the journalistic articles covering the final matches of the 1920, 1943, 1969 and 1995 editions of the championship, totalling 57 texts. The specific objectives are: a) to identify the characteristics of the coverage of the Campeonato Gaúcho finals in each edition; b) to measure the space given to the sports section and the coverage of the finals in the editions studied; c) to identify which journalistic textual genres are used in the coverage; d) to analyze the development of Correio do Povo throughout its history, with special emphasis on what happens in the sports section. As a research method, the parameters of the Content Analysis described by Bardin (2011) were adopted, which allow for the combination of quantitative and qualitative analysis. In the course of the research, it was found that, over the decades, Correio do Povo's coverage has incorporated more journalistic genres, while at the same time developing its language. The research started from the hypothesis that, over the years, the coverage would become more extensive, specialized and detailed, which was also confirmed. In 1920, the coverage was marked by the presence of English terms, the focus of articles on institutions and the division of articles between the telegrams and sports sections. In 1943, the texts began to focus on the sports section and, despite the decrease in English terms, the language remained stilted, as well as the organization of information within the news and stories was confusing. In 1969, the language became more direct, photographs made up the coverage, and the players were the protagonists of the articles. In 1995, Correio's coverage consisted of 33 texts, which represents more than half of the texts analyzed, demonstrating how it became more fragmented, i.e. made up of a greater number of texts that addressed more specific facts. The number of journalistic genres also increased, and team managers and referees began to share the lead in the stories with the players.
