This study investigates the relationship between return and risk in investments in Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) that adopt environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) criteria in the American market. For this purpose, we will conduct an empirical analysis, seeking testing return and risk using daily data from a sample of ESG funds, comparing them to the Standard & Poor's 500 index, which includes the five hundred companies with the highest trading volume on American stock exchanges. The analysis will be based on profitability indicators commonly used in the financial market. The aim is to determine whether the adoption of ESG criteria in the funds contributes to profitability or acts as a detractor. The data analyzed will be compared with other studies that suggest the expected average return of these funds is slightly lower than that of the index. This study does not explore other effects derived from ESG allocation, such as potential positive externalities. ...
