dc.description.abstract | A importância da hepatite B durante a gestação decorre do alto potencial de transmissão da mãe para o recém-nascido e da tendência deste à cronificação. Os profissionais da área da saúde estão em risco para hepatite B ocupacional e a vacinação é essencial na prevenção da doença. Objetivos: Verificar o conhecimento dos ginecologistas e obstetras em relação à hepatite B na gestação, como está sendo sua prevenção nos recém-nascidos e nos familiares de gestantes infectadas, e verificar se os profissionais estão vacinados e protegidos contra hepatite B. Material e métodos: Foram aplicados 262 questionários, com perguntas estruturais, semifechadas, pré-codificadas, a ginecologistas e obstetras contatados em eventos e Serviços de Ginecologia e Obstetrícia de Hospitais de Porto Alegre. Os profissionais foram classificados em subgrupos de acordo com o tempo de exercício profissional. Resultados: Para 98,8% dos profissionais, a hepatite B pode ser transmitida verticalmente; 86,9% solicitaram o marcador correto para identificação das gestantes infectadas e, destes, 53,2% solicitaram no primeiro trimestre; 52% indicaram corretamente a conduta preventiva para o recém-nascido e 5,3% para seus familiares. O conhecimento sobre hepatite B foi inversamente proporcional ao tempo de exercício profissional. Cerca de 92% são vacinados e 58% deles realizaram anti-HBs. Conclusões: O conhecimento dos ginecologistas e obstetras em relação à hepatite B mostrou-se inadequado em alguns aspectos. Há risco de infecção e cronificação para os recém-nascidos de mães infectadas pelo vírus da hepatite·B e insuficiente orientação preventiva aos seus familiares. Somente metade dos profissionais vacinados realizou o exame para avaliar imunidade pós-vacinal. | pt_BR |
dc.description.abstract | The importance ofhepatitis B during pregnancy derives from the high risk oftransmissio. n from mother to néwborn, and the infant's subsequent risk of chronic infection. Health care professionals are at risk ofoccupational hepatitis B and vaccination is essential in its prevention. Objectives: To evaluate obstetricians' and gynecologists' knowledge about hepatitis B in pregnancy and preventive measures adopted in relation to newborns andfamilies of infected pregnant woman, and to verify whether these professionals are vaccinated and protected against hepatitis B. Material and metllOds: A questionnaire with structured, semi-closed, pre-coded questions was distributed to 262 obstetricians and gynecologists contacted at professional events and at Obstetrics and Gynecology units at hospitaIs in Porto Alegre, Brazil. Professionals were classified in sub-groups according to length oftime in medicai practice. Results: 98.8% ofthe professionals identified that hepatitis B can be transmitted vertically; 86.9% test for the correct marker to identify infection in pregnant women and 53.2% ofthese perform this test in the first trimester ofpregnancy. 52.0% identified the correct preventive measures for the newborn and 5.3% for the family. Knowledge about hepatitis B was inversely related to time in the medicai profession. Approximately 92% had been vaccinated and 58% had testedfor anti-HBs. Conclusions: The levei ofknowledge ofobstetricians and gynecologists about hepatUis B was found to be inadequate in some aspects. Newborns of hepatitis B infected mothers are at risk ofinfection and development ofchronic infection, andprior preventive guidance for mothers' relatives is inadequate.
