Wittgenstein e o nascimento da ciência da computação

Abstract

No início do século XX, matemáticos, lógicos e filósofos se empenharam a fim de encontrar soluções para a crise dos fundamentos da matemática. A efervescência de ideias resultante dessa crise foi uma das grandes responsáveis pelo nascimento da Ciência da Computação. Este trabalho visa apresentar as ideias e contribuições do filósofo austríaco Ludwig Wittgenstein que foram relevantes nesse contexto. Primeiramente serão expostos os elementos principais de sua filosofia a, bem como os fatos mais importantes que levaram ao advento da computação. Depois, identi caremos ideias descritas originalmente em sua obra que posteriormente manifestaram-se em modelos clássicos da computação. Por fim, faremos uma análise de suas contribuições e discutiremos sua importância no nascimento da área.

In the beginning of the 20th century, mathematicians, logicians and philosophers were engaged in finding solutions to the foundational crisis of mathematics. The effervescence of ideas due to this crisis eventually led to the birth of Computer Science. This work aims to present the ideas and contributions of the austriac philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein that were relevant in this context. First, we review the main elements of its philosophy, and the most important facts which lead to the beginning of Computer Science. Then we identify the concepts originally described in his philosophy that were manifested in the context of classic models of computation. We finally discuss his connections with important precursors of Computer Science, and his overall impact on the area.
