The present doctoral thesis was developed in the Core Curriculum Studies and Knowledge (NECS / UFRGS) inserted in the post-graduate program in Science Education: Chemistry of Life and Health (PPGQVS). In this work some questions directed our attention to different places and under different perspectives: ―What defines femininity and masculinity? ―How do gender issues determine our role in society and the possibilities we will have? ―How does gender mark an person?‖ ―How are positions of power reached by women in the area of Chemistry? How do we narrate these women? ―What role do we have as educators in this constitution? Although we know that this is not a new issue, we understand that its reappearance as a research focus on science in Brazil is strong enough for questioning the discourse on women and their possibilities in the labor market, more specifically, in the area of Chemistry. As a research technique, we analyzed narratives in a perspective of post-structuralism, first by showing the narrative universe of the PhD student as a woman and her constitution as a Chemistry professional, either as a chemist or as a professor. Besides, we mapped the points at which the discursive practices directly mark the identity of gender. After that, we also worked with narratives of chemistry researchers who managed to break through the glass ceiling to give them a voice on the research issues In this first mapping, we managed to identify some discursive practices: a) female essentiality remains as the order of discourse; b) although being understood as a female science, chemistry seems to be so only because women outnumber men in this field; c) characteristics attributed to men in our daily practices – such as competitiveness, objectivity and rationality - are still 'desirable and necessary' brands for professional growth in this area of knowledge and characteristics viewed as feminine, such as motherhood and homecare - far from being understood as an equally shared responsibility among all those who share a house (men and women), - are seen as obstacles in the profession; d) researchers have difficulty to understand the dynamics of power while producing subject forms. What we find so far is that, ultimately, gender discussion is so important and immediate because they are not recognized, especially women who occupy positions of power in science. The lack of recognition prevents an inversion or destabilization of the discursive order. Thus, the concept in which we invest is more strongly the "knowledge/power" tool. There is a lot to do so that women‘s discourse change, specifically in science. However, in positions of power in Chemistry, we already find resistance to the impositions on gender role.en
