Abstract in Portuguese (Brasil)
Abstract
The research’s main question is: how has Agent-Based Modelling (ABM) been applied in the investigation of research questions on the field of Social Sciences and International Relations? The research’s main question is: how has Agent-Based Modelling (ABM) been applied in the investigation of research questions on the field of Social Sciences and International Relations? The first hypothesis specifies that ABM application to the selected research fields is characterized by the multiplicity of modelling techniques, by the nebulous communication of assumptions and logic model, and by the scarce documentation. The second hypothesis is that ABM has been primarily used for the generative purpose. The main objective is to offer a reference and applications guide to newcomers. The justification for this work lies on the presentation of this approach to Brazilian academics, due to the increasing use of computers and information technologies in the social research. The first chapter offers a holistic vision about concepts and computer simulation types. The second presents ABM’s main elements alongside with some application examples. The third, modelling strategies and platforms are presented. In closing remarks, the literature is revised in order to point out thresholds. Besides that, suggestions are made towards consolidation of the approach as a Social Sciences and International Relations research tool. ...
