This article aims to report a case study of high school students in a public school schools in the city of Caxias do Sul, in 2015, where concrete materials research problems were used. In all, developed and implemented five activities with the students, all making use of concrete material. From the productions of the students used the Theory of Vergnaud's Conceptual Fields to analyze the development of the subjects participating in the sequence of activities. The reflections from the research showed that when using concrete materials research problems involving counting as well as providing a significant building concepts, explains the role of the student as an active agent in the construction of mathematical concepts process.en
