O artigo situa-se no contexto das atuais investigações no campo da educação de surdos, que, a partir de mudanças da legislação e do reconhecimento político da diferença linguística e cultural das comunidades surdas, vêm focalizando o estudo de produções culturais desses grupos. Seu objetivo é apresentar um recorte introdutório de estudo do humor em língua de sinais brasileira (Libras), especificamente a partir da análise de piadas que circulam nas comunidades surdas. Considerando a literatura como objeto estético e como construção intertextual, propõe-se a análise de uma piada circulante em Libras, em cinco versões diferentes. Conclui-se que o humor privilegia temas socialmente controversos e as diferentes versões da piada Leão Surdo aborda a diferença linguística e cultural, a inversão de olhares, através de cenas que apresentam as vantagens de ser surdo, a comunicação com ouvintes, bem como a língua de sinais como conhecimento determinante para o final (in)feliz da história. O inesperado acontece: o violinista é devorado, pois a técnica – musical e auditiva – empregada para fazer leões adormecerem não funciona com o leão surdo. No entanto, em uma das versões dessa piada, quando o violinista usa a língua de sinais, o leão surdo adormece e a vida do violinista é preservada, graças ao conhecimento da língua de sinais. ...

This article is situated in the context of current research of deaf education, and it considers the current legislation and political recognition of the linguistic and cultural differences of deaf communities, in order to focus on the study of cultural productions of those groups. The main goal is to present an introductory study about the humor in Brazilian Sign Language (Libras), specifically some analysis of circulating jokes in deaf communities. Considering literature as an aesthetic object and as an intertextual construction, it is proposed to analyze a joke circulating in Libras, in five different versions. We concluded that humor emphasizes socially controversial themes and different versions of the joke Deaf Lion address the linguistic and cultural differences, the reversal looks through scenes that show the advantages of being Deaf, the communication with hearing people, as well as the sign language as determinant knowledge for the final (un)happy story. The unexpected end happens: the violinist is eaten, because the musical and auditory technique used to lions fall asleep does not work with a deaf lion. However, in one of the versions of that joke, when the violinist uses sign language, the deaf lion sleeps and the violinist’s life is preserved due to the knowledge of sign language. ...
