Jaite, Aminata Arcadia Vaz
This study aims to analyze the schooling process of girls in the Bafatá region, particularly regarding access to and retention in educational institutions. Gender inequality is identified as a structural factor affecting the right to education, especially in rural and peripheral contexts, where girls face multiple barriers to completing basic education. The discussion on education in Guinea-Bissau is based on Guinean, African, and other authors who analyze educational challenges, social inequalities, and gender issues. Notable authors include Sangreman (2020), Cá (2000), Cá (2015), Semedo (2011), Gomes (2015), Freire (1978), Furtado (2005), Oyěwùmí (2021), and Hooks (2014), whose reflections have contributed to understanding the relationships between education, poverty, gender, coloniality, and social inequalities, especially in the context of Guinea-Bissau. The importance of this research lies in recognizing education as a fundamental human right and understanding that female schooling is a strategic element for promoting gender equality, social justice, and community development. In Bafatá, as in other regions of Guinea-Bissau, school dropout rates among girls remain high, revealing the persistence of cultural practices, economic inequalities, and insufficient public policies to guarantee the inclusion and retention of girls in the education system. The research was developed using a qualitative approach, employing semi-structured interviews and written accounts as data collection instruments. The narratives of the interviewees allowed for an understanding of the experiences lived by the girls in the school and family context, revealing different forms of inequality and vulnerability present in the daily lives of these students. The results show that many girls find it difficult to remain in school due to family poverty and the collection of tuition fees, a situation that leads to frequent absences, tardiness, and, in many cases, school dropout. Furthermore, it was observed that domestic responsibilities fall mainly on girls, reducing the time dedicated to studies and rest. The research showed that the cashew harvest directly influences school dropout rates, especially in the last school term, a period when many families depend economically on this activity. Another aspect identified refers to the precarious conditions of the schools, marked by a lack of water, electricity, libraries, and adequate classrooms for teaching. The long distance students travel daily to school also appears as a factor that hinders school retention. The interviews also revealed situations of harassment, humiliation, and abuse of authority in the school environment, practices often normalized by the institutions themselves. We perceive that gender inequalities continue to strongly impact the educational trajectory of girls in Bafatá. Finally, female school dropout is related to multiple structural and social factors that go beyond the individual choices of the students. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen public policies aimed at girls' school retention, invest in improving educational infrastructure, and promote awareness-raising actions on gender equality and the right to education in Guinea-Bissau.

Por fim, ressalta-se a importância de que histórias ainda não visibilizadas sejam dadas a conhecer, desnaturalizando algumas verdades e narrativas cristalizadas, abrindo caminhos para outras perspectivas do ensino de Artes Visuais na escola.; This research begins with the restlessness of a Visual Arts Teacher, in a university-affiliated school (Colégio de Aplicação - CAp) in the Brazilian federal education network, upon realizing different conditions for working in this area of teaching and in this context in relation to prior work on different basic education networks. Driven by the desire to understand how we got to this point, this thesis aims to shed light to a certain method of visual arts education at CAp of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), from 1954 to 1996, understanding it not as something natural and, therefore, as a construct. This research belongs to the field of post-critic studies in education that assumes the problematization as an investigative gesture so that, thus, it elaborates a history of Visual Arts teaching at CAp/UFRGS, specifically during the indicated period. The work is conducted through two great methodological movements. The first, presented in the Thesis’ Part I, involved in gathering, producing, organizing, and creating and inventory of materialities regarding the teaching of Visual Arts at CAp/UFRGS that composed the research archive, visualizing and valorizing different collections and sources, such as the testimony and memory of former teachers and the work itself, conducted at a basic school. The second methodological movement, presented on Part II of this thesis, comprises the production of a narrative with what emerges from the crossing of materialities of the research archive together with a critical/reflective stance that, on the one hand, helps us understanding the teaching of Visual Arts as a production of a period and, on the other, instigates us to think about what we do and wish to create in the teaching of Arts today. Throughout the research, it became evident that some aspects of modernity and coloniality, which cross the proposed practices, permeating the history of arts schooling that allies itself with a civilization project. Among the research findings, what stands out is that the teaching authorship is the main aspect in Visual Arts education, as conducted at CAp/UFRGS, although it is crossed by contextual issues and by dominating concepts regarding arts during said period. Finally, we are reminded of how important it is for not yet known stories to be made public, deconstructing some consolidated and crystalized narratives and truths, opening new paths for other perspectives on the teaching of Visual Arts in school.

Research indicates that, at present, university students are more likely to experience emotional difficulties compared to the general population. Grounded in a Foucauldian perspective and its interlocutors, within which this study is situated, it is understood that, in order to comprehend a phenomenon, it is necessary to investigate its exteriority—that is, how discourses and social practices are articulated and update the prevailing rationality. This rationality is characterized by an imperative of hyperproductivity, in which market rules may produce distinct ways of shaping subjects’ modes of life. Accordingly, the question guiding this investigation is to understand how neoliberal rationality, by instituting the logic of merit and the demand for permanent productivity, affects the mental health of university students at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul. The study seeks to identify and discuss, based on students’ accounts, how discourses and practices experienced within the academic environment produce effects on student mental health, aiming to analyze how neoliberal rationality permeates students’ experiences at the university. To this end, two focus groups were conducted with undergraduate students over the age of 18. One group consisted of a pre-existing group of students from a health-related program, while the other was formed using the “snowball” sampling method, which is characterized as a non-probabilistic sample based on referral chains. The results demonstrate how neoliberal rationality permeates both student and institutional discourses, producing feelings of inclusion/exclusion and nonbelonging. Although affirmative action policies have expanded access, students—especially those admitted through quota systems and those who must work—face challenges in remaining at the university. As alternatives, students’ accounts highlight the importance of friendship networks, both within and outside the university, as sources of support, care, and persistence. Thus, Health Promotion initiatives in the academic environment should focus on rethinking relationships, the foundations of the university, and on decentralized activities that foster student inclusion across the institution. Moreover, such initiatives should be collectively constructed, with student participation and with practices oriented toward extension activities carried out by students and for students.

<link>http://hdl.handle.net/10183/308842</link>
In recent decades, digital technology and the internet have been incorporated as tools to support the production, circulation, and sharing of knowledge, expertise, and practices, shaping new modes of social and educational interaction. However, this movement does not occur in a homogeneous manner, as inequalities persist in access to and use of digital technologies, which are influenced by social, economic and educational conditions that limit the effective use of these tools, especially among older adults. Thinking about digital inclusion means recognizing it as a space for social participation, in which individuals learn, teach, and reinvent their ways of being in the world. In this scenario, participation is understood as an educational process that brings individuals together around collective interests, strengthens democratic ties and expands possibilities for critical insertion in spaces, including those mediated by technologies. The objective of this thesis was to analyse the participation of older people in the methodological configurations of research on digital inclusion, based on a digital inclusion project developed in Brazil, grounded in a Freirean perspective. It is theoretically grounded in the perspective of critical education, particularly the concept of participation. Methodologically, it is a qualitative study that combines a literature review, expert interviews, and participatory research. Two literature reviews were conducted: one on Brazilian theses and dissertations and the other on international articles. In the empirical field, interviews were conducted with four experts on the contextual conditions that guide and structure Freirean research and practice, as well as observations and meetings on digital technologies with older people participating in two social assistance policy bonding groups in a municipality in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre. The data were produced using a self-assessment instrument for participation, analysed using descriptive statistics, and participation in the meetings, which, together with the interview transcripts, were interpreted using reflective thematic analysis. The results show that older people's participation in educational processes and research methodologies is not homogeneous, influenced by different life experiences, levels of familiarity with digital technologies, and the meanings attributed to their use. The research points to the centrality of participation as an ethical, political, and methodological principle, highlighting the need for research methodologies that promote listening, dialogue, and the recognition of older adults as active subjects in educational processes. As a contribution, the thesis broadens the debate on forms and processes of participation by older people in research in the fields of education and ageing, especially regarding the investigation of non-formal educational processes of digital inclusion.
