Abstract
Having in mind the recent advances in the capacity of estimation and forecasting of factor models concerning the term structure of interest rates this study proposes itself to verify the quality of a group of four popularly approached models in the literature. In the present work base concepts concerning the mathematics of interest rates are defined. In the tests done here we conclude that the Svensson (1994) model performs best than its rivals (Diebold Li (2006), Bliss(1997), 2 Factors), at th ...
Having in mind the recent advances in the capacity of estimation and forecasting of factor models concerning the term structure of interest rates this study proposes itself to verify the quality of a group of four popularly approached models in the literature. In the present work base concepts concerning the mathematics of interest rates are defined. In the tests done here we conclude that the Svensson (1994) model performs best than its rivals (Diebold Li (2006), Bliss(1997), 2 Factors), at the in sample adjustment. In regard of the prediction power, the 4 factor Svensson model predicted by an AR(1) comes out as the best for the horizons of a month (21 days), 3 months (63 days) and 6 months (126 days) meanwhile the 2 factor model predicted by a VAR(1) has the best results for the horizons of a day and 1 week (5 days). ...
