Conceptos en la educación científica : ignorados y subestimados

Abstract

Este trabajo intenta destacar el papel clave de los conceptos en la enseñanza y aprendizaje de las ciencias y de las matemáticas. Inicialmente se presentan aportaciones de autores muy reconocidos en psicología y epistemología —Fodor, Toulmin, Mayr, Kuhn, Ausubel y Vergnaud— respecto a la relevancia de los conceptos en el pensamiento, en la comprensión humana, en el progreso científico y en el desarrollo cognitivo. En continuidad se discute la importancia de los conceptos en la educación científica, desde sus lugares comunes, es decir, enseñanza, aprendizaje, currículum y contexto.

This paper attempts to emphasize the key rol of concepts in the teaching and learning of science and mathematics. Initially, the contributions of well known authors from psychology and epistemology —Fodor, Toulmin, Mayr, Kuhn, Ausubel and Vergnaud— regarding the relevance of concepts in thinking, in human comprehension, in scientific progress, and in cognitive development are presented. Then the importance of concepts for science education, in terms of their commonplaces, that is, teaching, learning, curriculum, and context is discussed.
