| pt_BR |
dc.description.abstract | Introduction: The self-assessment questionnaires are instruments that have been incorporated in the clinical routine to help detect possible hearing disorders. Objective: To investigate the sensitivity and specificity of the protocol Hearing Handicap Inventory for the Elderly - Screening Version (HHIE-S) hearing screening in non-institutionalized elderly. Methods: Quantitative and qualitative assessment hearing by conducting pure tone audiometry (average of 500, 1000 and 2000 Hz in the better ear) and application of the HHIE-S. Results: Patients were predominantly female (n = 46 , 85.2 % ) had normal hearing (n = 37, 66.1 %) and low perceived handicap (n = 33, 61.1 %). There was a statistically significant relationship between handicap and degree of hearing loss (rs= 0.578 , p < 0.001) the specificity was slightly higher sensitivity. Conclusion: There is a positive association between the degree of hearing loss and handicap the HHIE- S is a tool for screening hearing with high specificity and sensitivity in identifying hearing loss in elderly people who seek health services that are not specific for service related to hearing disorders. | en |
