Jornalismo científico na contemporaneidade: análise de conteúdo das matérias sobre saúde da revista Galileu

Abstract

Este trabalho busca compreender quais as características do jornalismo científico desenvolvido pela revista Galileu. Para atingir tal objetivo, foram escolhidas as matérias científicas dedicadas às temáticas da saúde, pela sua grande ocorrência no veículo. Foram selecionados 36 textos, publicados nas edições de janeiro a junho de 2013. No aporte teórico, discutiu-se as características do conhecimento científico, da comunidade que o produz, da divulgação científica, do jornalismo científico e do jornalismo de revista. Através da Análise de Conteúdo, buscou-se identificar as temáticas de saúde mais frequentes, os tipos de recursos visuais utilizados e os diversos aspectos relativos às fontes de informação - área do conhecimento, quantidade, distribuição no texto, origem (nacional ou internacional) e filiação institucional. Verificou-se também a contextualização dos temas, o uso da linguagem e os sentidos construídos sobre ciência. Concluiu-se que a Galileu tem preferência por temas da medicina, apoia fortemente seu conteúdo em recursos visuais, dá mais destaque às abordagens das ciências biológicas e utiliza, majoritariamente, fontes filiadas a instituições de ensino e de origem internacional, sendo esta última característica marca, ao mesmo tempo, de uma tendência globalizada e de uma indiferença pela ciência nacional. Os textos são, no geral, bem contextualizados e de linguagem simples, transmitindo um discurso científico apoiado em promessas e moldado para servir como um guia de orientação pessoal. Observou-se também que o formato revista, por sua periodicidade diferenciada, possui grande potencialidade para produzir um jornalismo científico de qualidade.

This research seeks to understand the characteristics of science journalism developed by Galileu magazine. To achieve this goal, we selected articles devoted to the health theme, due to their high occurrence in the periodical. Thirty-six texts were selected, which were published from January to June, 2013 editions. In the theoretical chapter, scientific knowledge, scientific community, science communication, science journalism and magazine journalism characteristics were discussed. Through content analysis, we sought to identify the most frequent health topics, the types of visual used and the various aspects related to information sources - knowledge area, quantity, distribution in text, origin (national or international) and institutional affiliation. The contextualization of themes, the use of language and the meanings constructed over science were also seen. It was concluded that Galileu magazine has a preference over topics of medicine, that it strongly supports their content in visuals, that it provides more prominence to studies of biological sciences and that it uses, mostly, sources affiliated with educational institutions and international origin, being the latter characteristic a mark, at the same time, of a global trend and an indifference to the national science. The texts are generally well contextualized and use simple language, conveying a scientific discourse supported on promises and shaped to serve as a manual for personal guidance. It was also observed that the magazine format, differentiated by their periodicity, has great potential to produce quality science journalism.
