Microalgas são organismos fotossintetizantes que utilizam o CO2 do ar e luz solar para o seu crescimento. Atualmente, os estudos sobre biocombustíveis, especialmente o biodiesel, apresentam um foco no crescimento e adensamento das culturas de microalgas para o seu uso como matéria-prima renovável. Uma das possibilidades para melhorar as taxas de crescimento desses microorganismos é a modificação do regime de cultivo, através da adição de um componente carbônico orgânico no meio de cultivo. Esse procedimento pode se dar em presença ou ausência de luz, cultivo mixotrófico e heterotrófico, respectivamente. Neste trabalho foi desenvolvido um estudo sobre o potencial do uso desses cultivos para a microalga Nannochloropsis oculata, com o uso de glicose, sacarose e glicerina como fontes de carbono. Os experimentos foram desenvolvidos em uma mini-planta de fotobiorreatores, de 3 L de volume útil, em um período de cultivo de 3 dias. Para os cultivos em presença de luz, foi usado uma intensidade luminosa de 9000 lux e um fotoperíodo de 12:12h de luz/escuridão. Para permitir um comparativo, realizou-se igualmente um cultivo autotrófico e um cultivo em branco para avaliar as contaminações. Os resultados deste trabalho mostram que, nas condições usadas, o regime mixotrófico se destaca como o regime que obteve maiores concentrações de biomassa para as três fontes testadas. Sendo a maior concentração para o uso de glicose, 0,376 g/L de biomassa, com aproximadamente 60% de aumento em relação ao regime autotrófico. Os cultivos heterotróficos não se mostraram convenientes, dentro das condições testadas, pois apresentam crescimento compatível ou mesmo inferior ao regime autotrófico, sendo a sacarose como pior fonte de carbono, dentre as testadas, com apenas 0,175 g/L de biomassa.
