A energia elétrica está presente na vida da maioria da população, sendo o chuveiro um dos principais responsáveis pelo seu aproveitamento. Porém, com a demanda por energia aumentando a cada dia, é importante que haja outras maneiras de aquecer a água para o banho. Em tempos nos quais a sustentabilidade é um assunto muito discutido, a energia solar, tão disponível no Brasil, torna-se uma grande alternativa de aquecimento para os chuveiros do País, na medida em que supri as necessidades da população e minimiza os impactos ao meio ambiente, além de ser mais viável economicamente. Apesar disto, o sistema de aquecimento solar ainda é pouco aproveitado no País, devido, principalmente, ao elevado custo de aquisição, se comparado aos chuveiros elétricos, e à falta de conhecimento sobre o sistema. Sendo assim, este trabalho visou o dimensionamento de um sistema de aquecimento de água para chuveiros, do tipo passivo, utilizando placas coletoras planas fechadas de energia solar. A partir deste dimensionamento, foi possível obter a área de captação solar necessária para aquecer a água da residência estudada, com quatro moradores, localizada em Porto Alegre, utilizando uma placa com Produção Média Diária de Energia Específica igual a 2,57 kWh/dia.m². Foi verificado, então, o período de retorno do investimento no sistema de aquecimento solar, se comparado aos custos com o chuveiro elétrico, chegando-se ao valor de, aproximadamente, 5,5 anos, para tempo de banho igual a 10 min. Diversos cenários foram criados, a fim de se verificar a influência de determinadas características na área de captação solar e, consequentemente, no período de retorno do investimento. Os resultados mostraram que, normalmente, o sistema não é afetado de maneira muito significativa por fatores como inclinação e orientação geográfica das placas, sendo estas alterações supridas pela área efetiva das placas utilizadas, normalmente superior à área necessária. Em relação ao tempo de uso do chuveiro, verificou-se que, embora tempos maiores levem a custos iniciais elevados com o sistema de aquecimento solar, o período de retorno do investimento neste sistema se reduz com o maior uso do chuveiro, tendo em vista os altos custos com energia elétrica para o sistema tradicional. ...
