Este trabalho versa sobre o desenvolvimento de métodos de auxílio na tomada de decisão para o dimensionamento de reservatórios de usos múltiplos, os quais permitam o aproveitamento de águas da chuva e o amortecimento de escoamento superficial. A partir da revisão bibliográfica aborda-se primeiramente, a escassez e o excesso de água e como isso afeta a sociedade e, posteriormente, métodos para o dimensionamento de reservatório para captação de água da chuva, a importância da conservação da água e como a água de chuva pode suprir a demanda de água não potável. Encerrando a pesquisa bibliográfica, são descritos problemas na drenagem urbana, e como medida de controle, são abordados métodos para o armazenamento temporário de escoamento superficial, bem como, o conceito de precipitação máxima e modelos para transformação de chuva em vazão. Com base na série diária de chuva de Porto Alegre e na simulação do balanço hídrico de um reservatório, foram estimadas curvas de permanências de volume para cada cenário simulado. Por sua vez, a partir da curva IDF do IPH, foi calculado o hidrograma gerado por uma precipitação com tempo de retorno de 10 anos. Os resultados das curvas de permanência, em conjunto com o volume do hidrograma, permitiram o desenvolvimento de gráficos que apresentam a probabilidade para amortecer a totalidade ou uma parcela do hidrograma, bem como, o tempo que os reservatórios suportam até o inicio do extravasamento. Foram elaborados dois conjuntos de simulações, nos quais foram utilizados diferentes volumes de reservatórios e valores de demandas diárias. Para maior riqueza e aplicabilidade da metodologia, foi elaborada nos gráficos das simulações uma curva que representa a probabilidade de falha no atendimento da demanda. Portanto, a metodologia propicia avaliar, em um mesmo gráfico, o reservatório ou demanda apropriada para o amortecimento do escoamento superficial e o aproveitamento da água da chuva. Durante o desenvolvimento das simulações, resultados esperados foram verificados, como quanto maior é o volume do reservatório maior é a probabilidade de amortecimento do escoamento superficial, assim como menor é a falha de atendimento da demanda, analisando apenas o volume do reservatório como variável. E, quanto maior for a demanda diária, maior é a probabilidade de amortecimento do escoamento superficial, bem como maior é o índice de falha no atendimento do reservatório para demanda. ...
