Comportamento dos porto-alegrenses na separação do lixo residencial

Abstract

A mudança no cenário atual, devido ao crescimento da preocupação com as questões ambientais, vem ressaltando a importância de buscar novas alternativas para os resíduos que produzimos, assim como buscar a diminuição da produção desses resíduos. Essa maior conscientização das pessoas e a participação delas em ações ambientais são fundamentais para que o problema da destinação dos resíduos sólidos urbanos seja resolvido. A cada ano a população consome milhões de produtos e gera milhões de toneladas de resíduos que ficam sem destino correto, porque a população não auxiliou nesse processo, fazendo a separação correta desse material, seja por falta de interesse ou conhecimento sobre o assunto. Para que esse lixo seja reciclado e a coleta seletiva faça o recolhimento desse material, o morador deve fazer a sua parte separando o lixo na sua residência. Essa pesquisa realizou 546 questionários online, com perguntas fechadas, com moradores de Porto Alegre, buscando identificar as motivações que levam essas pessoas a fazerem a separação correta do lixo em suas residências. Além disso, essa pesquisa buscou verificar os hábitos de separação do lixo dos moradores da cidade, assim como conhecer sua percepção quanto à separação desses resíduos e verificar o nível de conhecimento que eles possuem a respeito desse tema. Os resultados apontam para uma atitude positiva quanto à separação do lixo residencial e a participação da coleta seletiva. É possível concluir que os entrevistados percebem que existe pouca informação a respeito da coleta seletiva e de como separar o seu lixo. Ainda assim, eles buscam fazer essa separação, pois se sentem motivados por outros fatores como a limpeza do ambiente, a preservação de novos recursos da natureza e a reciclagem dos materiais.

The change in the current scenario due to the increasing worries with the environmental issues has been drawing attention to the importance of searching for new alternatives for the residues that we produce, as well as attempting to diminish the production of these residues. The people’s awareness growth and their participation in environmental actions are essential for the solution of the urban solid residues destination problem. Each year the population consumes millions of products and generates millions of tons of residues that remain without being taken to the right destination, because the population has not assisted in this process by executing the right separation for this material, due to a lack of interest or information about the subject. In order to allow the waste recycling and the selective garbage collection, the residents must do their part separating their residential waste. This research conducted 546 online questionnaires, with closed questions, with residents of Porto Alegre. It aimed at identifying the motivation that influences these people to carry out the correct waste separation at their residences. Furthermore, this research aimed at verifying the city residents’ habits of separating waste, as well as to know their perception regarding the separation of these residues and verify their level of knowledge on this subject. The results indicate a positive attitude regarding the residential waste separation and the participation of the selective garbage collection. It is possible to conclude that the interviewees perceive that there is little information regarding the selective garbage collection and how to separate the waste. Nevertheless, they try to execute this separation because they feel motivated by other factors, as cleanliness of the environment, the preservation of the new natural resources and the recycling of materials.
