Os resultados evidenciaram que o comprometimento, sensibilidade, amor e preocupação do pai com seu bebê nascido pré-termo, independe da situação sócio-econômico-cultural. This study sought to understand, through a qualitative approach, the influence of the socio-economic-cultural level during the construction of fatherhood in the situation of prematurity. We investigated three parents of different educational levels, an illiterate one, another with elementary education and another one with higher education who had their children born preterm in a public hospital. The interviews were subjected to content analysis. The results showed commitment, sensitivity, love and caring of those fathers with their preterm born babies, regardless of their socio-economic-cultural background. There are, however, important differences between the cases, the concerns regarding the restructuring of their identities, their role of provider and the development of the situation of prematurity during becoming a father. ...
