A evolução do cooperativismo agropecuário no Brasil

Abstract

Este estudo apresenta, de forma geral, a evolução do cooperativismo no Brasil, desde o seu surgimento – no final do século XIX – até o seu fortalecimento – na primeira década do século XXI. Atentou-se, neste trabalho, para as cooperativas agropecuárias, já que estas são atualmente as maiores e as que agregam maior número de cooperados no país. Em vista disso, realizou-se uma revisão bibliográfica para discorrer sobre o surgimento, o desenvolvimento, a crise e a reestruturação dessas cooperativas no Brasil, procurando-se contextualizar com o ambiente político-econômico de cada período. Buscou-se, então, analisar de forma cronológica o desenvolvimento dessas organizações, enquadrando-as dentro da economia brasileira. O entendimento acerca dessas instituições se mostra muito relevante ao passo que exercem um importante papel social – inserindo milhares de produtores em um mercado altamente concorrido. Além disso, os significativos resultados econômicos apresentados nos primeiros dez anos do século XXI, revelam o poder de adaptação das cooperativas ao mercado globalizado. Destaca-se, também, a importância da Economia Solidária que emerge ao longo da década de 1980 para solidificar essas associações como importantes instrumentos sociais que promovem – através da “educação solidária” – uma sociedade mais justa.

This study presents, in a general way, the evolution of cooperativism in Brazil, from its appearance – in the late nineteenth century – until its strengthening – in the first decade of the twenty-first century. The focus of the paper is the agricultural cooperatives, since these are the most significant ones and that aggregate more cooperators in this country. Observing this matter, it was made a literature review to discuss the emergence, development, crisis and restructuring of these cooperatives in Brazil, seeking to contextualize the political and economic environment of each period. It was sought to analyze the development of these organizations in a chronological way, framing them within the Brazilian economy. The understanding concerning these institutions proves very relevant since they perform an important social role – by inserting thousands of producers in a highly competitive market. Besides, the significant economic result that the cooperatives presented in the first ten years of the twenty-first century, revealed its power of adaptation into a globalized market. It is also noteworthy the importance of the Solidarity Economy that emerged throughout the 1980s to solidify these associations as important social bodies that promote - through "solidarity education" - a more just society.
