Este trabalho analisa a apropriação que Margareth Rago faz de Michel Foucault em 1985, no seu livro Do cabaré ao lar: a utopia da cidade disciplinar - Brasil 1890-1930, condensação de sua dissertação de mestrado defendida na UNICAMP em 1984. Este trabalho analisa a apropriação que Margareth Rago faz de Michel Foucault em 1985, no seu livro Do cabaré ao lar: a utopia da cidade disciplinar - Brasil 1890-1930, condensação de sua dissertação de mestrado defendida na UNICAMP em 1984. Procuro analisar esta apropriação considerando-a a partir da UNICAMP em um contexto de consolidação da universidade e dos cursos de pós-graduação em História, de efervescência política, social e cultural e de busca por renovações historiográficas. Assim, a leitura que Margareth Rago faz de Foucault e sua apropriação concomitante com o uso de Thompson – o que em outro momento é criticado pela própria autora – são entendidos dentro de um contexto histórico onde as fronteiras epistemológicas ainda não se encontravam tão definidas como viriam a ser posteriormente. Enfatiza-se o lugar social de produção do livro, o estilo de escrita de Rago em diálogo com o de Foucault, a abordagem paradoxal que a autora faz do anarquismo e o papel do sujeito em Foucault, em Do cabaré ao lar, e na autocrítica de Rago. ...
