Em uma sociedade onde vigoravam regras de Antigo Regime, o sacramento da pia batismal era a introdução de um individuo na comunidade, seja ela terrena ou espiritual. Em uma sociedade onde vigoravam regras de Antigo Regime, o sacramento da pia batismal era a introdução de um individuo na comunidade, seja ela terrena ou espiritual. É através desse ato que ele ganha "pais espirituais", os padrinhos. O estabelecimento de uma relação de compadrio selava, através do sacramento, a aliança entre duas famílias, que assumiam o compromisso sagrado de manter respeito e solidariedades entre si. As relações de compadrio, mais do que a função religiosa, adquiriam também uma função social, ao reiterar alianças entre iguais ou criar vínculos com famílias de estatuto social superior. Este trabalho pretende entender em que sentido os migrantes direcionaram suas estratégias referentes ao uso do compadrio foi utilizado pelos primeiros imigrantes açorianos da povoação de Santo Amaro, no Continente de São Pedro, através da análise de um dos livros de registro de batismo da freguesia de Triunfo, que contém os dados da povoação de Santo Amaro, no período de 1757 a 1774. ...
