Study about the use of different friction tracks in brake discs by means of a tribometer
Abstract in Portuguese (Brasil)
Abstract
This paper evaluates, through experimental tests performed on a tribometer, the possibility of using two friction tracks on each side of a brake disc and also reuse the same friction track several times. This is done aiming the economy of the discs and the consequent cost reduction in the tests. The experiments were carry out on a friction track located on a smaller radius of the disc and also on a larger radius, 33 mm and 51 mm, respectively. Eight samples from the same friction material were tested, where each test consists of 76 stop braking, carried out under different levels of temperature. Significance of the tests on the same friction track and also on the use of two different friction tracks were evaluated by means of Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and through the variability of the friction results. It was possible to conclude that the condition of the friction track caused a small influence on the variability of the results and the same friction track can be used more than once, since 2,5 % of variability is accepted. In the case of different radius, the maximum variability was larger, 6,7%. ...
