In this work we investigate some thermodynamic properties of ideal gas systems in curved compact surfaces of constant negative curvature. Surfaces with similar properties arise, for example, in fluids embedded in curved spaces. We have studied the thermodynamic stability, using the following condition [formula], where KT is the isothermal compressibility. The analysis is based in the asymptotic canonical partition function: [formula] where β = 1/ (kBT ) e A, K, x are area, gaussian curvature and Euler characteristic number, respectively. Our results show that there are certain constraints between curvature and temperature that have to be satisfied in order to reach the required thermodynamical stability. It is important to notive that the curvature is related to the Euler characteristic by K A = 2лx for hyperbolic surfaces. Given the current techniques of handling nanostructures with distincts topology (eg. Mobius strip) and geometry (surfaces of nanotubes, nanocavities and so on) and the dependence of Z (A, β) on the geometry (A) and topology (x) in the limit of high temperatures, it is worth asking whether thermodynamic properties of nanostructures can be more proeminently affected by their geometry and topology. ...
