History
A Escola de Engenharia de Porto Alegre foi fundada em 1896, e juntamente com a Faculdade Livre de Medicina e Farmácia de Porto Alegre e com a Faculdade Livre de Direito de Porto ALegre, foram as primeiras instituições de ensino superior do Rio Grande do Sul. Originalmente escolas autônomas, a partir de 1934 elas passaram a constituir a Universidade de Porto Alegre, que após a federalização em 1951 passou a denominar-se UFRGS. A Escola de Engenharia de Porto Alegre, através dos seus diversos institutos, enfatizava o ensino prático e profissional. Esses institutos são a origem de um grande número de faculdades e cursos existentes hoje na UFRGS. O prédio principal da Escola, atualmente conhecido como prédio Centenário da Escola de Engenharia da UFRGS, foi inaugurado em 1900, e foi o primeiro a ocupar a área que hoje conhecemos como Campus Centro da UFRGS. Originalmente com dois pavimentos mais subsolo, recebeu o acréscimo de um terceiro nos anos 1950.Original
