Abstract
The objective of this study is to evaluate the predictive ability of financial institutions on stock prices. The objective of this study is to evaluate the predictive ability of financial institutions on stock prices. Furthermore, we investigate the possibility of these predictions being affected by conflicts of interest. To address these two issues, we tested the significance of their logarithmic errors based on the projections contained in the reports issued by analysts of these institutions to the end of each year and the actual closing prices of each year. The efficiency of the analyzed banks suggests that the use of reports does not show an effective strategy to overcome market returns. In addition, the analyzed financial institutions showed an optimistic bias, a result that is compatible with the hypothesis that banks have a conflict of interest in their analysis of financial assets. ...
