Os aterros sanitários, embora tenham atenuado os problemas associados a disposição final de resíduos sólidos, trouxeram consigo outra questão, não menos importante: a geração de um efluentes líquido chamado de chorume. Este trabalho apresenta uma proposta de tratamento de chorume de aterro sanitário, envolvendo a aplicação da eletrólise. Foram avaliados os comportamentos de três tipos de amostras frente a este processo: o chorume bruto (como coletado), o chorume após filtração prévia e o clarificado do chorume pós-tratamento físico-químico. A remoção da matéria orgânica, avaliada através da demanda química de oxigênio (DQO), foi insatisfatória. A redução de DQO do chorume bruto foi de 1,90%. Para o chorume filtrado, a eficiência na redução da DQO foi de 9,37%, e para o chorume clarificado, foi de 8,18%. Embora os resultados tenham sido considerados insatisfatórios, este método de tratamento não deve ser descartado, mas, sim, estudado mais profundamente.
