Da galaxia para o universo acadêmica : a (des)caracterização de Kylo Ren/Ben Solo em Head Over Feet (2019) e A Hipótese do Amor (2022)

Abstract

O presente trabalho analisa a caracterização da personagem Kylo Ren/Ben Solo nos três filmes da sequela da saga Star Wars, na fanfic Head Over Feet (2019) e a sua descaracterização no livro originado por ela, A Hipótese do Amor (2022), demonstrando que para chegar até o livro, a personagem, ao ser descaracterizada, deu origem a uma nova personagem. O estudo utiliza os conceitos de Jens Eder (2010) e de Atara Stein (2009) para, primeiramente, analisar a personagem Kylo Ren/Ben Solo canônica, e seguindo para a sua caracterização em Head Over Feet (2019) e a sua descaracterização em A Hipótese do Amor (2022). A escolha das obras analisadas se deu pelo fato de A Hipótese do Amor (2022) ter sido uma das primeiras a explorar o gênero comédia romântica com personagens do ambiente acadêmico em um romance, além de ser um grande sucesso de vendas até hoje. Além disso, A Hipótese do Amor (2022) teve sua origem, Head Over Feet (2019), como uma fanfic publicada no Archive of Our Own na qual as personagens de Star Wars se encontravam em um universo alternativo, moderno e universitário. A análise de Head Over Feet (2019) demonstrou que a construção da personagem corresponde ao que os fãs e leitores já conhecem dela pelos filmes. Nessa nova realidade, a fanfic desenvolve a relação da personagem com sua antagonista, adicionando e expandindo a relação entre os dois no que é concebido como arquivo por Abigail Derecho (2006). Porém, a análise em A Hipótese do Amor (2022) mostrou a descaracterização da personagem para a publicação da obra sem ferir os direitos autorais de posse da Walt Disney Company causada pelo apagamento da sua história original, gerando perda do reconhecimento, criando uma nova personagem que não está mais conectada exclusivamente ao arquivo de Star Wars e que chega a ter o seu próprio arquivo.

This paper analyzes the characterization of the character Kylo Ren/Ben Solo in the three films of the sequel to the Star Wars saga, in the fanfic Head Over Feet (2019) and its mischaracterization in the book it originated from, The Love Hypothesis (2021), demonstrating that to reach the book, the character, when being mischaracterized, gave rise to a new character. The study uses the concepts of Jens Eder (2010) and Atara Stein (2009) to, first, analyze the canonical character Kylo Ren/Ben Solo and then proceed to its characterization in Head Over Feet (2019) and its mischaracterization in The Love Hypothesis (2021). The choice of the works analyzed was because The Love Hypothesis (2021) was one of the first to explore the romantic comedy genre with characters from the academic environment in a novel, in addition to being a great sales success to this day. Furthermore, The Love Hypothesis (2021) had its origins in Head Over Feet (2019), a fanfic published in the Archive of Our Own in which the Star Wars characters found themselves in an alternative, modern university universe. The analysis in Head Over Feet (2019) demonstrated that the construction of the character corresponds to what fans and readers already know about her from the films. In this new reality, the fanfic develops the relationship between the character and its antagonist, adding and expanding the relationship between the two in what is conceived as an archive by Abigail Derecho (2006). However, the analysis in The Love Hypothesis (2021) showed that the character's mischaracterization for the publication of the work without violating the copyright held by the Walt Disney Company caused the erasure of its original story, resulting in a loss of recognition, creating a new character who is no longer exclusively connected to the Star Wars archive and who even has its archive.
