Reconstrução e crítica do materialismo histórico : marxismo analítico, explicação funcional e a busca por mecanismos

Abstract

Na presente pesquisa, investigo a teoria materialista da história desenvolvida por Karl Marx e Friedrich Engels. O materialismo histórico é uma teoria da história que defende fundamentalmente duas teses, a saber: (i) o nível de desenvolvimento das forças produtivas explica a base econômica da sociedade; (ii) a base econômica explica as superestruturas jurídicas e políticas da sociedade. Observe-se que as duas alegações fundamentais do materialismo histórico são alegações explicativas. Por meio das obras de G. A. Cohen, argumenta-se que as duas alegações supracitadas são inevitavelmente explicações funcionais. A explicação funcional se mostra, portanto, como uma peça essencial ao materialismo histórico, de modo que sua validade é necessária para a validade da teoria marxista da história. Desse modo, uma parte considerável da pesquisa se concentrou na análise da metodologia funcionalista. Ao mesmo tempo que a pesquisa pretende ser uma exposição clara e sistemática do materialismo histórico, pretende-se examinar a adequação metodológica dessa teoria.

In this research, I investigate the materialist theory of history developed by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. Historical materialism is a theory of history that fundamentally defends two theses, i.e: (i) the level of development of the productive forces explains the economic basis of society; (ii) the economic basis explains the legal and political superstructures of society. Note that the two fundamental claims of historical materialism are explanatory claims. Through the works of G. A. Cohen, it is argued that the two mentioned claims are inevitably functional explanations. The functional explanation is therefore an essential part of historical materialism, so that its validity is necessary for the validity of the Marxist theory of history. Thus, a considerable part of the research focused on the analysis of the functionalist methodology. While the research aims to be a clear and systematic exposition of historical materialism, it also intends to examine the methodological adequacy of this theory.
