Abstract in Portuguese (Brasil)

Orodispersible tablets (ODT) are solid dosage forms that disintegrate quickly in the oral cavity and are swallowed without the concomitant ingestion of water. This dosage forms offers several advantages such as easier administration in geriatric, pediatric, with dysphagia and psychiatric patients. Moreover, many studies indicate an increase in bioavailability of drugs administered in this pharmaceutical form. Moreover, ODT present certain challenges in their production such as to ensure rapid disintegration time, appropriate hardness and friability, and to mask unpleasant taste of certain drugs. The aim of this paper is to review the excipients, the technologies used to produce ODT and the tests of quality control for these dosage forms. ...
