Abstract in Portuguese (Brasil)
Abstract
This review aims to evaluate the influence of management and other factors (such as genetics, parity order, body condition and some diseases) that may influence the occurrence of pelvic organ prolapse (POP's) in sows. Pelvic organ prolapses (POP's) are classified as rectal, uterine and vaginal. In terms of occurrence, one may occur in isolation or all three associated. Consequences in terms of health, performance and welfare of the sows can compromise the productivity of a production system. In ...
In the literature, studies highlight the importance of tail docking (tail length) and perineal score at birth, since these factors seem to be related to the incidence of POPs. In addition, training employees to correctly assess the female's clinical status can be an effective way to avoid aggravating the situation. However, studies on this topic are still needed. ...
