Uma população favelada catarinense : suas origens, fatores de favelização e aspirações

Abstract

O propósito desta pesquisa foi o de estudar uma população residente em periferia urbana, quanto a suas origens, fatores de favelização, aspirações educacionais e ocupacionais, buscando obter insumos para um planejamento educacional, fundamentado na realidade da população periférica. O estudo oportunizou, além da observação e da descrição da realidade investigada, detectar o poder de predição de algumas variáveis que influem nas aspirações dessa população. A pesquisa foi realizada com 168 chefes de família, residentes em uma vila, situada à margem do perímetro urbano de Florianópolis, Estado de Santa Catarina. Na parte descritiva do estudo, se utilizou a distribuição de frequência para determinar o presente status da população. Para a parte preditiva, foram elaboradas quatro equações de regressão múltipla, com o intuito de se observar a influência de fatores pessoais, educacionais, sócio-econômicos e de origem geográfica sobre as aspirações educacionais (ideal e real) dos chefes de família em relação a seus filhos. Quanto as variáveis selecionadas, o estudo sugere que, em populações periféricas, tanto a instrução, sexo e origem do chefe de família, como a escolaridade do filho, influem significativamente na aspiração educacional (ideal ou real) do chefe de família em relação aos filhos. O estudo faz algumas inferências que poderiam servir de subsídios, tanto no planejamento e na administração da educação nesse tipo de população, especificamente, no que concerne a realização de programas e pesquisas educacionais junto a populações periféricas brasileiras, como na redefinição da política migratória do Estado.

The purpose of this research was to study a population on an urban periphery to determine the factors relevant to its origin and development into a slum (favela); and the educational and occupational aspirations of its inhabitants. The goal of this investigation is to obtain insights to improve educational planning, based on the needs and aspirations of the populations. In addition to observing and describing the current status of this population, this study attempts to determine some of the variables that influence the aspirations of the people. 168 (one hundred sixty-eight) heads of families, residing in a small village at the periphery of the city of Florianópolis in the state of Santa Catarina, comprised the sample. In the descriptive phase of the study frequency distributions were employed to determine the present status of the population. In the next phase, four multiple regression equations were used to assess the influence of personal, educational, socio-economic, and geographic factors on the real and ideal educational aspirations of the heads families for their children. The findines suggest that in this population, educational level, sex, and origin f the head of the family, as well as the educational level of the child, significantly influenced both the real and ideal educational aspirations of the heads of the families for their children. This study leads to inferences regarding the planning development, and administration of educational programs and research based upon the reeds of the given population, and the state’s political policies regarding migration.
