Nanocompósitos são uma nova classe de materiais compósitos que contém partículas em escala nanométrica dispersas em uma matriz polimérica. Nanocompósitos são uma nova classe de materiais compósitos que contém partículas em escala nanométrica dispersas em uma matriz polimérica. O polímero utilizado foi o polipropileno (PP), resina termoplásticas que apresenta alta versatilidade em termos de propriedades e duas argilas Montmorilonita (I44P e C-15A), as quais possuem estrutura em multicamadas e elevada razão de aspecto. A forma de obtenção dos nanocompósitos é um dos fatores que influenciará tanto o seu tipo de morfologia quanto suas propriedades mecânico dinâmicas e térmicas. Uma comparação entre os métodos de fusão e de intercalação por solução é necessária para uma melhor compreensão entre a relação do grau de dispersão dessas argilas e as propriedades dos nanocompósitos. Com o intuito de aumentar a força de adesão entre a argila (carga inorgânica polar) e PP (matriz polimérica apolar) foi utilizado anidrido maleico como compatibilizante (PP-g-MA). Um inchamento prévio, com solvente orgânico, da argila (I44P ou C-15A) aumentam sua dispersão na matriz de PP e consequentemente melhoram as propriedades finais dos nanocompósitos. Outro fator que influenciará nas propriedades finais do nnocompositos é o uso de ultrassom, sistema que auxilia na dispersão da argila na matriz de PP. O poder de intercalação do sistema com 1% de I44P foi superior ao sistema com 1% de C-15A sem o uso do ultrassom, este efeito mostrou-se contrário quando se fez o uso do ultrassom. Para os demais nanocompósitos, com diferentes composições de argila (1-7%), o poder de intercalação dos sistemas com a C-15A foi superior aos da I44P. Sendo assim, o uso do ultrassom se mostrou mais efetivo para os sistemas com a C-15A em virtude da melhor distribuição e esfoliação dos platelets e consequentemente aumentando sua capacidade de reforço em 4% com relação ao PP puro. Maiores ganhos de E’ também foram obtidos quando comparados aos nanocompósitos obtidos pelo método por fusão. A Tc dos nanocompósitos foi aumentada mesmo para quantidades inferiores a 5% de MMT independente do uso do ultrassom. O uso de PP-g-MA melhorou as propriedades finais dos nanocompósitos de PP principalmente para os sistemas com a I44P. ...
