dc.description.abstract	The present essay considers a reading of Relíquias da Casa Velha as a work connected to with its time, the beginning of the XX century, when it was published. In order to analyse the collection of texts published there, the novel Casa Velha, published in newspapers in the years 1885-1886, was used as a term of mediation to understand the texts in the book (short story, cri tique, theater...) as ruins in the present, signs of the time slavery and patriarchalism prevailed in Brazil.	en
