Estratégias criativas da ilustração em jornal : processos artísticos de Edu Oliveira

Abstract

O objeto dessa pesquisa é o processo criativo das ilustrações de Edu Oliveira para o editorial do jornal Zero Hora entre 1992 e 2018. A análise parte de uma breve biografia do artista e de um recorte de seu trabalho, com a identificação de características que perpassam toda a sua obra. Ao focar nos desenhos do editorial, propõem-se três grandes caminhos para abordar essa produção em suas distintas facetas: (a) o processo pessoal do artista para criar neste espaço, observando tanto a trajetória da produção para o editorial quanto as referências empregadas, (b) a importância da repetição no modo de produção em larga escala da redação do periódico, salientando as soluções encontradas pelo artista, como anotações e catalogação e (c) a relação entre texto e imagem que é marcante na ilustração, indicando algumas estratégias específicas adotadas por Edu para lidar com essa tensão e os embates decorrentes dos limites criativos impostos pelo jornal.

The object of this research is the creative process behind Edu Oliveira's illustrations for the editorial of the newspaper Zero Hora between 1992 and 2018. The analysis starts with a brief biography of the artist and an excerpt of his work, with the identification of characteristics that pervade his whole work. By focusing on op-ed page drawings, three major paths are proposed to approach this production in its distinct facets: (a) the artist's personal process to create in this space, observing both the trajectory of production for the editorial and the references used, (b) the importance of repetition in the large-scale production mode of the newspaper’s editorial office, highlighting the solutions found by the artist, such as annotations and tabulation and (c) the relationship between text and image that is striking in the illustration, indicating some specific strategies adopted by Edu to deal with this tension and the clashes arising from the creative limits imposed by the newspaper.
