Silviculture activity in Brazil began its most distinguished developtment in the second half of the 20th century and has become nowadays an important sector in Brazil’s economy. The State of Rio Grande do Sul (RS) has presented this same national tendency and currently is one of the big representative states of the industry of forestal basis in Brazil, especially with the culture of Eucalyptus and Pinus. The most significant environmental problem of this activity is the undesirable proliferation of the genus Pinus in natural environments, especially in the coastal region of Southern Brazil. Incorrect handling of Pinus or its non existence in previous or present cultures may incur in a vast spread of this genus, especially in areas where the land occupation has not been predetermined. Over the last years, legislative devices have been created or modified to regulate and organize the culture of Pinus in the State of RS. On the Northern coastal area of this State, the city of Osório has earned especial attention, for it shelters a rich environmental mosaic with ecosystems associated to it with the characteristics of the Atlantic Forest and the Pampa biomes. Utilizing geotechnologies as instruments for environmental management, this work analyzed the use of land occupation of the Pinus culture, as well as its proliferation in ecologically important environments of the city of Osório, RS. Space data (vectorial data) of 2020’s trimester of July-Septembre showing the silvicultural activity of the state of RS were provided by the State Foundation Henrique Luiz Roessler for Environmental Protection (FEPAM – RS) and they made the analysis of the areas of silviculture activity in the city possible to us, so we could identify areas where the Pinus culture has occured. Moreover, the photo-interpretation of the Sentinel 2 satellite images (August of 2020), in false colour composite, allowed us to identify areas of proliferation of Pinus in ecologically sensitive environments, as well as possible sources of disemination of seeds (hot spots) of the city. Two areas on natural environments presented Pinus proliferation in a more concearning manner: one near the Biguá, Emboaba and Emboabinha lagoons and the other in the remaining field present in the area of the shifting sand dunes between the cities of Osório and Imbé. To conclude, two suggestions were presented, in order to foster the creation of Conservation Units in these two environments where the Pinus proliferation has been deemed accentuated.en
